Binding Service

Our binding service is the perfect way to give your quilt a polished and complete look! Binding is the final step in finishing your quilt, and we take great care to ensure it’s done beautifully. You can choose to have us attach it to the top only so you can hand sew it later. Our most popular option is to machine bind it with a precise top stitch that adds beautiful detail to your quilt. You have the option of making your binding yourself or have us handle it all, so your quilt is ready to be treasured and enjoyed. With our binding service, you’ll get a professional finish that truly showcases your quilt’s charm!

Quilt Preparation and Shipping Instructions

  • Press and square your quilt top. Flared borders will pleat and pucker.
  • Clip all threads on your quilt and press seams to the darker fabrics especially on quilts with white/light fabrics.
  • Press bulky seams open. Check for open seams.
  • Backing and Batting should be 4-6" larger than quilt top.
  • If you need to add fabric to meet required size, only add fabric you are okay with ending up in the final quilt.
  • Do not sew a border or framing on backing. Pieced backings are okay, but we cannot precisely center a backing, but if requested we will do our best. This works best with large pieces of fabric on the sides. If the side pieces/top are 12-18" wide vs 4" any shifting is negligent. If you try to do this with a border/frame on the backing that is 4" or even 6", even 1/2" of shifting is very noticeable.
  • Do not baste or layer quilt top, batting and backing.
  • Include fabric for binding if we are making it. Please do not include biased tape.
  • Instructions are below if you choose to make binding yourself.

 Shipping Instructions

  • We quilt tops from all over the United States.
  • You can mail your top, batting and backing.
  • You can mail only your top and backing, and we can choose some batting. We carry 90" 80/20 Hobbs and 90" 100% cotton Warm & Company batting.
  • Most customers mail their tops only, and we help pick a batting and fabric for the backing in the shop. I will either piece it or we choose a wide back. If we do not have what you are looking for, we can do curbside pickup at one of our other local fabric shops:
    • Northern Threads www.northernthreads.com
    • Joann Fabric & Crafts @                            250 3rd St Ste 1, Fairbanks, AK 99701
    • Pick up will be Stephanie Conner
  • You will be emailed an invoice when complete. We will mail your finished quilt upon payment of your invoice and ship via your choice of USPS Ground or Priority Mail.

Binding Instructions

  • If we are making your binding, just include enough fabric for us to make it.
  • Measure the perimeter of your quilt and divide by 40" for # of strips to cut. Round up and add an extra strip.

  • Cut strips selvage to selvage at 2 1/4 inches wide.

  • Sew strips together at a 45°angle.
  • Press in half
  • Please do not include or use biased tape.
